What to know
Book the anchor activity first.
Pick the experience you most want to do, confirm its available date, and then arrange the rest of the day around the actual start and return times. These are flexible itinerary ideas, not timed packages or promises of availability.
Choose your lodging area before comparing the routes. A resort-based outing, a Torch Lake delivery, and a Leelanau Trail ride have different starts; combining them without travel time creates a rushed day.
Friday: arrive and get the details right
Settle into your lodging, review Saturday’s confirmation, finish required waivers, and save the meeting point. Check what gear to bring and leave time for a relaxed dinner rather than squeezing in an unconfirmed rental.
- Confirm drivers, passenger eligibility and equipment
- Save the return time as well as the start time
- Check weather and operating updates
Saturday: make the trail ride the main event
Choose a guided ATV or UTV experience for a local route leader, or a self-guided rental when your group is prepared for the responsibility. Start at the meeting point in your confirmation and allow for orientation.
After the ride, plan an unhurried meal and time back at your lodging. A short ride and a long lunch can be a better family itinerary than filling every hour.
- ATVs carry one rider; UTV seating includes the driver
- Bring the requested documents and layers
- Do not treat the resort as an ORV departure point
Sunday: a scenic road trip or an e-bike outing
Choose a Slingshot route toward Old Mission Peninsula or M-22 when your rental window covers the drive, stops, and return. For a bicycle outing, pick Memories at the resort or Riding Electric by the Leelanau Trail.
Sleeping Bear sightseeing can be a separate day: seasonal access, drive time, walking, and overlooks deserve room in the schedule. Check park conditions before building a rental plan around Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive.
- Use the Slingshot route planner for round-trip estimates
- Check trail conditions before choosing an e-bike route
- Leave a buffer before your drive home
Summer alternative: swap in a lake day
Reserve a pontoon, double-decker waterslide boat, deck boat, or jet ski for the confirmed lake. If staying at a lake house, coordinate delivery rather than assuming the nearest address is a pickup point. Keep the other day flexible for sightseeing or a trail ride.
- Confirm lake, loading point, capacity and safety gear
- Review weather, fuel and return terms
- Schedule meals around the real delivery window
Winter alternative: one snowmobile day, one flexible day
Choose a guided tour or self-guided rental around current snow and trail conditions. Plan another day for your own local sightseeing, dining, or indoor activities so the entire weekend does not depend on riding weather.
- Check snowmobile availability before travel
- Confirm clothing and helmet inclusions
- Use the winter meeting directions, not summer assumptions
